How to Choose the Chandelier Size for Bedroom

There are two key factors to consider when selecting a chandelier for your bedroom.

Ceiling height will play an essential part in determining the hanging level of the chandelier.
Measurement of the space is key to ensuring the chandelier is in proper scale and proportion to the size of the room.

General Guidelines to Determine Size

1. How To Decide The Diameter of The Chandelier

To measure the length and width of the room in feet, sum them up, the result will be the approximate diameter for the chandelier in inches.

Formula:

Room Length (Feet) + Room Width (Feet) = Diameter (Inches)

For rooms less than 10 feet (Length) by 10 feet (Width), the chandelier should be about 17" to 20" for its diameter.

For rooms more than 12 feet (Length) by 12 feet (Width), the chandelier should be about 24" to 27" for its diameter.

2. How To Decide The Height of Chandelier

Measure the room's floor to ceiling distance in feet, multiple by 2.5 or 3 will be the approximate height for the chandelier in inches.

Formula:

Room Height (Feet) x 2.5/3=Chandelier Height (Inches)

For example 9 feet Room Height:

9 feet x 2.5 = 22.5 inches

9 feet x 3 = 27 inches

The chandelier should be approximately 22.5-27 inches for its height.

3. How To Decide The Hanging Height

Allow 7 feet from the floor to the bottom of your chandelier. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet, add 2.5-3 inches for each additional foot.

For example:

For an 8 feet ceiling height, at least 7 feet bottom height above the floor.
For a 9 feet ceiling height, ideally, 7 feet 3 inches bottom height above the floor.
For a 10 feet ceiling height, ideally, 7 feet 6 inches bottom height above the floor.

The chandelier can hang lower if it is placed directly above the bed. Allow at least 6 inches of clearance space above your head when kneeling on a bed.

It's not an exact science, but these are helpful rules to select the right size of your chandelier.
